  1. Each year in early December we distribute a catalog to all first years, sophomores and juniors that contains available summer internship opportunities across the country and in a variety of career fields. If you are interested in promoting a summer internship opportunity in our catalog, please register online at www.denison.edu/offices/career/catalog_registration.html by Tuesday, November 1, 2011. If the November 1st internship deadline has passed, and you would still like to sponsor a summer internship, please click here. If you would like to sponsor an internship during the academic year please email a description to career@denison.edu.

  2. The registration form is brief and will provide us with all of the information necessary to include your internship opportunity in the 2011 catalog. Please Note: In effort to reduce paper and promote sustainability, the catalog internship descriptions are limited to 250 words; however, we welcome you to submit an extended description of your internship which students will be able to view online.

  3. IMPORTANT! Unless you tell us otherwise, the deadline for students to apply for your opportunity will be Monday, March 5, 2012. On Sunday, March 6, you will receive the applications via email as attachments.

  4. Students need to make travel/living arrangements, therefore we strongly encourage you to contact the student in whom you are interested quickly. Denison Summer Break starts Monday, May 14, 2012.

NOTE: Internships must be a minimum of three weeks (or 100 hours minimum), but can be designed longer at your discretion. We strongly encourage internships of greater length to provide maximum benefit to the student(s). A student can do an internship in June, July and/or August and still be a part of the program. We are eager to accommodate your schedule.

Should you have any questions regarding registering your internship or the Denison Internship Program, please contact career@denison.edu

How the Internship Program Works

The internship involves the student, the professional supervisor, and the office of Career Exploration & Development. Career Exploration & Development, career@denison.edu, administers the internship program by assisting the intern and professional supervisor with details and information regarding the internship registration and evaluation processes. The intern and/or professional supervisor should contact the office of Career Services immediately if concerns with the internship develop.

While no credit in involved, students should register the internship with Career Services so that it will be recorded on his/her transcript. The requirement for this is that the internship be sponsored by Career Exploration & Development either as a catalog internship or independently arranged with approval by Career Exploration & Development. Further, the on-site supervisor must formally indicate satisfactory performance upon the completion of the internship.

Each participant has the following specific responsibilities:

+ Professional Supervisor Expectations
  1. The professional supervisor structures the internship in a manner appropriate for the student's maximum benefit from career exploration.

  2. The professional supervisor assumes responsibility for exposing the interns to as broad a spectrum of professional activities and concerns as possible, for insuring that the intern is involved at a level appropriate to his/her skills, and for helping the intern evaluate the profession and his/her potential for success in it. A specific project could be undertaken and evaluated.

  3. The professional supervisor is also asked to submit an evaluation of the intern's work at the end of the term. This evaluation is the basis for recording satisfactory completion of the Denison internship on the student's transcript. However, academic credit is not granted. The professional supervisor's evaluation is due in the office of Career Services no later than September 1.

  4. If the other criteria for the internship are met, some form of compensation for the student is welcome but not expected. Arrangements for travel, room and board are the responsibility of the intern, but assistance from the professional supervisor will be appreciated.
+ Intern Expectations
  1. The intern will work a minimum of 100 hours and use an appropriate and professional level of conduct and dress during the designated period.

  2. The intern should be alert for ways to make the internship a positive and maximum experience. This would include sharing with the professional supervisor pssible areas of interest and focus.

  3. The intern will, as far as possible, have specific responsibilities and should be exposed to a broad range of activities characteristic of the career field.

  4. The intern will submit an evaluation of the program at the end of the internship. The evaluation should be discussed in detail with the professional supervisor. This evaluation will serve as a reference for that internship site for future interns.

  5. Arrangements and cost of travel, housing and board are the responsibility of the intern.
