Introducing new print services for students and a change in network printing in all computer labs

Beginning Monday, January 21, 2008, students will be able to print directly to Denison networked printers from personally owned laptops. We are very pleased to be able to offer this now. This new convenience for students should save valuable time and make life easier.  It will simplify the process of printing a document by eliminating the need to log into a Denison lab computer or deal with formatting issues that arise when software versions differ between a personally owned computer and a Denison lab computer.

This new service is being provided in conjunction with a network print audit system that will help reduce printed paper waste at networked printers around campus and control costs.  To that end, each Denison student will be allocated 600 duplex print pages or 450 simplex print pages each semester for network printing. A recent comparison of other universities yielded an average of a 300-page allocation.

Use of a network printer in a public computer lab by students, faculty, or staff will require an online authorization to release a print job. For important instructions and more information, we encourage you to visit: www.denison.edu/printing

Beginning Fall 2008, Denison Dollars will be accessed for overages but it is anticipated that if used responsibly, the print allocation levels will cover the printing needs of the majority of students.

We hope you will join us in support of this initiative to enhance service while reducing waste on campus.
