Departmental Printing

Academic and Administrative Departments

Information Technology Services provides networked laser printers for each department. Depending on the amount of printing done by staff members, we may provide laser printers to be shared within an office, or we may install a high speed high capacity printer that can be shared by several members of the department.

Adding a Printer

To add an additional networked departmental printer to your office computer open go to the iPrint Printers webpage, login with your Novell credentials and click on the name of the printer that you want add. When a window appears asking you if you want to install it, click "OK".

To install a department lab printer go to the iPrint Lab Printers webpage, choose the printer that you would like to install and click "OK".

NOTE: Mac users with new computers running the Mac OS 10.6 system must use Firefox to add a printer. Safari throws an error when you try to add a printer.

New Faculty

New faculty may request a current standard inkjet printer as part of their initial computer system. (Keep in mind that replacement will be at the academic department's cost.) We encourage all faculty to use the existing shared networked laser printer in the department whenever possible to reduce the number of printers on campus.

Color Printing

Faculty and staff who require color printing or a personal printer for confidential work must request one through the Information Technology Services Help Desk. The cost will be billed to the department's office supplies account.

Printing Services

Office Services located in Doane provides color printing of posters, flyers, brochures, photographs as well as labeling of envelopes for mass mailings on an as-needed basis. For more information on all of the services, please see the Office Services webpage.

Help us Reduce Printing

We ask everyone to reduce, reuse, and recycle.

Reduce

  • Know what you are printing and where you are printing to. Some areas may print to more than one printer.
  • Only print what you have to. Select text from an article and print just what you need instead of the entire thing. When possible, edit at the computer instead of printing a draft. Note the URL of a webpage instead of printing a copy of it or save the URL in Delicious or another free social bookmarking service.
  • Ask for help if you find a problem with a printer. We can correct problems to allow for more efficient printing.

Reuse

Recycle

  • Recycling bins are located near each printer. Please use them to discard unwanted paper. Do not leave your prints on the printers for others to sort through!
