Lab Printing
Denison uses a print management system in order to reduce print waste. Students are granted a generous print allowance (see FAQs below). The system requires you to release your print jobs through a web page before they will go to the lab printers.
Print Release Instructions
Follow the steps below to release your prints:
- Print as you normally would from any application.
- Within 60 minutes login to the Print Release System (Novell Authentication required)
- Select the print job(s) you would still like to print by checking the box to the left of the document.
- Click the "Print" button. NOTE: your job(s) is released and balance(s) debited.
- If you are in Fellows 100, Curtis Lab, Huffman Lab, or the Library Reference Lab, go to the printer and slide your Denison ID in the Pcounter PRO card-swipe. NOTE: after 60 minutes your job(s) will be removed.
- Retrieve your printed materials from the printer.
FAQ's
What is my print allowance and how are printing costs calculated?
At the start of every academic year, each student will be provided free-of-charge with an equivalent cash allowance of $36.00 for printing. This equates to 1200 sides/600 pages when printing double-sided or 900 sides/pages when printing single-sided on a standard black and white printer. Printing double-sided saves 25%.
Standard printing costs are calculated as follows:
- Single sided print - $0.04 per page
- Double sided print - $0.03 per side
Example: a 20 page document printed single sided would cost $0.80, but if you duplex the job, or print on both sides, the job will only cost $0.60.
Special printing costs can vary based on the type of printer.
Be sure to view the cost of the job(s) before approving. All print jobs are charged as soon as they are released.
After your print allowance has reached $0 your Denison Dollars account will be automatically debited for each print, provided there are funds available.
How do I view my current balance?
Your current balances are displayed at the top of the Print Release Page (Novell Authentication required). The balance of both your print allowance and Denison Dollars may be viewed at any time.
Can I increase my print allowance?
No, the print allowance cannot be increased. However, you may to continue to print by using your Denison Dollars.
We understand that many classes and some disciplines require more printing than others. Similarly, some classes require several books and others require none. A few classes even require additional fees for supplies and additional costs. For these reasons, we suggest budgeting for these classes or research which may require more printing than average.
Help! My balance is zero on both my print allowance and my Denison Dollars!
Visit the Student Accounts office as soon as possible to fund your Denison Dollars account. It can take up to one business day for the funds to be available.
In the mean time, you can borrow prints from a friend. From the same computer you originally printed from, have your friend release your print job(s). Return the favor by buying a similar print job for your friend after your account has been funded.
Refunds?
If you have a problem printing, please contact the helpdesk@denison.edu as soon as possible. We will be happy to reprint the job for you. We cannot issue refunds, but we can easily replace print jobs that are damaged or failed to print due to an error with the printer.
