Media Technology Policies
Borrowing Equipment
- Audiovisual equipment may be borrowed for academic purposes only.
- All borrowing requires reservations made at least 24 hours in advance.
- Most items may be borrowed for no more than 48 hours; a $25/day per item fine will be charged for late returns.
- All patrons must present their Denison ID to borrow equipment.
- Borrowers must accept financial responsibility for loss or damage to equipment.
Copyright Policies
Denison University and Media Technology Services adhere to the United States' Copyright Law (Public Law 94-533) of 1976 and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998. We urge all members of the Denison Community to be aware of and abide by these laws. We also support the Off-Air Taping Guidelines for Educational Purposes.
Members of the Denison Community should note that the United States is a signatory to the Berne Convention as it pertains to copyrighted foreign programs. Only open broadcast programs may be recorded: ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, PBS, etc. Premium pay services, such as HBO, Discovery Channel, Cinemax, Disney, do not fall in the open broadcast category and cannot be taped. MTS will record open broadcast programs for academic preview purposes only and will log, retain and erase tapes at the end of a ten-day preview period.

Foreign Program Copyrights
Denison University and MTS adhere strictly to the Berne Convention on foreign copyrighted materials as subscribed by the United States of America. When a person purchases a videocassette, that person legally purchased only one copy of that cassette for their use. No additional copy may legally be made from any one cassette. If the videocassette is in a foreign format standard, you may make one copy into another format standard, such as PAL to NTSC, provided the original tape is destroyed upon completion of the transfer. Privacy and Confidentiality
We adhere to the ALA Code of Ethics, point III, adopted by ALA Council, June 28, 1995: "We protect each library user's right to privacy and confidentiality with respect to information sought or received, and materials consulted, borrowed, acquired, or transmitted".
