Setting up Spam Filter Rules

To set up a rule to discard all the messages with the [SPAM] indicator follow the steps below.  All filter rules are executed in the order listed on the filter rules page.  Thus this filter should be setup before the spam sensitivity rule if you do not want the messages that are tagged [SPAM] to go into your spam folder used for review:

Discarding [SPAM] tagged messages
1. Go to webmail site: Webmail
2. Login with your email account
3. Click on Filters
4. Click on New Rule
5. For the rule name enter "[SPAM] discard rule"
6. Be sure "All of the following" is clicked
7. Select the "Subject" field from the pull down list.  New boxes will show up for setting up the condition.
8. Center box should be set to "Contains"
9. In the third box enter "[SPAM]"
10. In the "Do this:" box select "Delete message completely"
11. Make sure the "Stop checking if this rule matches" box.
12. Click on Save, then Save a second time (Yes, you have to click on Save twice.  This is a known bug.)
13. Click Return to Rules List

Setting Spam Sensitivity

In the new version of webmail you can set your spam sensitivity so that it will recognize more messages as spam.  Note that if you do not setup the discard rule above the spam sensitivity rule will apply to the any message with the score you enter and above.

1. Go to webmail site: Webmail
2. Login with your email account
3. Click on Filters
4. Click on Spam
5. Enter the spam score.  This score is level that is considered spam.5 and above are either quarantined or marked with the [SPAM] indicator.  Below 5 is considered borderline, so nothing is done with the messages except to mark them with their spam score.  To increase the number of messages that you consider spam you want to reduce the spam score.
6. Enter the folder you want the spam messages to be put into.
7. Click on Save, then Save a second time (Yes, you have to click on Save twice.  This is a known bug.)
8. Click Return to Rules List
