Remote Access to Denison Resources

Before You Begin

These instructions are provided for staff, faculty, students, and visitors using both systems owned by Denison and home computers that are not owned by Denison.

Remote access will require the installation of some software components to establish a VPN connection with Denison.  As with any software installation, it is strongly recommended that you back up any critical data on your computer. While Denison University and Juniper Networks (the developer of the software) have thoroughly tested this software, it is impossible to test for every system configuration. Neither Denison University nor Juniper Networks will be held responsible for any damages or loss of data incurred by the use of this software.

*IMPORTANT:  If you've used the Cisco VPN client to connect to Denison in the past, you should take a moment to uninstall that client.  The Cisco VPN service has been retired at Denison.*

User Support

Members of the Denison community are permitted to use the software on their personally owned computers. Should you have any questions regarding installation, software removal, or VPN access, please contact the help desk at x6395 or email helpdesk@denison.edu.  Please remember that ITS is only able to offer limited support on personally-owned devices.

Installation Instructions

Denison uses Juniper's SSL VPN product to provide remote access to campus resources. The installation instructions are available below. Choose a platform and follow the step-by-step instructions to install the service on your computer. Please let us know if you run into a service you are not able to access or if you find a problem in the installation procedures. Operating systems are constantly changing and we are not always able to predict the effects of those changes.

Mobile Devices

Juniper provides an application to establish a VPN connection for the following platforms:

  • iOS
  • Android
  • Windows Mobile
  • Blackberry
  • Symbian

Using the store on your device, search for "Juniper Pulse".  After installation, the application will ask for your username and URL.  For username, enter your Denison email username, for URL enter remote.denison.edu.
