Printing 2008 - Release your Print jobs

For 2008, Denison has implemented a new printing system. In efforts to reduce print waste, this system will require you to Release your Print jobs through a web page before they will go to the printers. This system will also provide each student a print allowance equivalent to 1200 duplex pages for the academic year.

Install Certificates [doc] - These instructions show how to install certificates and avoid an uncomfortable delay with Firefox browsers.

Spring 2008 - You will be notified when your balance drops below 66 duplex pages. When your print balance reaches $0, you will continue to print, but you will be notified of your low balance at each print. You may visit the Help Desk to increase your allowance to eliminate the e-mail messages.

Fall 2008 - Beginning this fall, once your allowance has been expended, your Denison Dollars account will be debited for each additional print. Printing costs are outlined below.

Why is Printing different?

For the last several years, the printing demands in our labs has increased dramatically. With this increase came a disturbing increase in the amount of waste. The university has purchased a system to help us address this problem. This system allows each of us individually and the campus community as a whole to be more responsible with our use of the printing resources.

What is my Balance? Am I being charged?

You will see your Print Allowance balance at the top of the Print Release Page. (requires Novell credentials)

You can also Print Allowance Balance (requires Novell credentials)

For Spring 2008, you will not be charged for exceeding this allowance. However, you will be notified when the balance is low and when it has been expended.

For Fall 2008, your Denison Dollars account will be debited for each print after the allowance has been exceeded.

How will I be charged starting Fall 2008?

Beginning in the Fall Semester of 2008, your Denison Dollars account will be debited for each print after your initial print allowance has been expended. See below for the costs of printing.

How much does printing cost?

Denison University will continue to provide printing in the computer labs. Starting in 2008, each student will receive a generous allowance of free prints each year.

Printing costs will be calculated as follows:

Single sided print -   $0.04 per page

Double sided print - $0.03 per side

Therefore, a 20 page document printed single sided would cost $0.80, but if you duplex the job, or print on both sides, the job will only cost $0.60.

Each student will start the academic year with an allowance of $36 for printing. This equates to 1200 duplex pages or 900 single sided pages.

Can I increase my Print Allowance?

Currently, there will be no way to increase the standard print allowance.

We understand that many classes and some disciplines require more printing than others. Similarly, some classes require several books and others require none. A few classes even require additional fees for supplies and additional costs.

For these reasons, we suggest budgeting for these classes or research which may require more printing than average.

Spring 2008 only: since we will not be automatically debiting the Denison Dollars accounts for any excess printing this spring, student will be able to disable the zero balance e-mail notifications by visiting the Help Desk during business hours.
