Remove McAfee

Active, up-to-date anti-virus software is required for all computers connecting to Denison's network. Denison provides McAfee Virus Scan. Should you wish to remove McAfee Virus Scan, you will need to complete the steps below. Please be sure to re-install active, up-to-date anti-virus software immediately. Anti-virus software is critically important today. Install effective software and keep it up to date!

Windows with ePolicy Orchestrator Agent

Follow these three steps to remove McAfee from a Windows computer:

  1. For McAfee VirusScan 8.5, Open VirusScan console (From the Start Menu or the Task bar icon).  Open Access Control properties and Uncheck – “Prevent McAfee Services from being stopped.” Previous versions do not require this step.

  2. Open the Windows Control Panel for Add/Remove Programs (Vista calls this Programs and Features). This step must be completed immediately following step one.
    1. Uninstall McAfee Anti-Spyware.
    2. Uninstall McAfee Virus Scan.

  3. Remove ePolicy Orchestrator. Click on Start -> Run and type (or copy and paste) the following: "C:\Program Files\Network Associates\Common Framework\FrmInst.exe" /remove=agent.
    A message box will appear with log information and an indication that removal is complete.

  4. Restart the computer.

Macintosh OS X

VirusScan8.6.1_Uninstaller.zip
  1. Remove the old EPO agent with the Terminal application.
    To find Terminal: click on Spotlight (the magnifying glass icon in the upper right-hand corner) then type "terminal". Wait a couple seconds, and then click on the application called "Terminal".

  2. Run the Uninstaller in the Terminal window. Type or copy the following commands (from sudo to the end of the line):
    1. sudo sh /Library/NETAepoagt/cmduninst
    2. sudo sh /Library/McAfee/cma/uninstall.sh

  3. Download VirusScan8.6.1_Uninstaller.zip [zip] to your Desktop
  4. Open the downloaded .zip file.
    This will extract "VirusScan Uninstall.command" to the Desktop.

  5. Double-click the "VirusScan Uninstall.command" file. When prompted, enter the administrator password and allow the terminal window to run until it says "Process Completed".
