Fix for jEdit Saving Bug
When saving a file, some versions of jEdit give the error message Cannot save: java.io.IOException: Permission denied. However, despite the error message, the changes may actually be being saved; it is the error message that is the error and can be fixed by downloading a replacement file of the bugged error message.
The error message that appears due to this bug is the same as the error message that appears if you truly can't write to a file. You can check to see if you are experiencing the effects of the bug by making a change to file and attempting to save. If you close and reopen the file and your changes are still there, you are experiencing the bug. If your changes weren't saved, you should contact Web Services for assistance.
Patch Instructions
- Close jEdit.
- Download this patch.
- For Windows XP go to Start >> Program Files >> jEdit>> jars. For Mac OS X go to Applications >> jEdit >>jars.
- Move the file FTP.jar that you downloaded in Step 2 into the jar folder you located in Step 3. Overwrite or replace the old version of the FTP.jar with the new downloaded version.
- Restart jEdit
Note: Internet Explorer 6.0 SP2 renames "jedit4.2denison.jar" to "jedit4.2denison.zip" in error. In order to avoid setup complications please rename the file when prompted to "jedit4.2denison.jar" by changing the "Save as Type" to "All Files" and changing the file name to "jedit4.2denison.jar".
