myDENISON Portal Tutorial
Channels
myDENISON provides you with a default set of channels the first time you log in. Take the time now to go through your tabs and channels and, using the Close button at the corner of each channel, remove the channels that you don't need. (You can also remove channels by selecting Remove Channel on the User Preferences page.) This will leave you room to add new channels. Note: some channels can not be removed because they are part of the mandatory layout for myDENISON users.
As new channels are made available, they are announced in the myDENISON Updates Channel located in the Computing tab. Some new channels will be automatically added to the default layout, and will be available the next time you log in to myDENISON. Others, however, must be added manually.
Adding and Removing Channels
To add a new channel, select Change Layout & Skin from the options list in the upper right of all portal pages. This will bring you to the User Preferences page with the Edit Diagram.
The Edit Diagram shows the current layout of myDENISON. The boxes running across the top contain tab names and the option to add new tabs. The columns contain "channel" placeholders with icons that indicate possible changes.
Follow these 5 steps to add a channel:
- Select a tab: From the boxes along the top of the edit diagram, click on the tab in which you want to add a channel.
- Select a location: Before and after each existing channel is a button labeled Add Channel. Choose the one located where you want you new channel to be. Don't worry if you click on the wrong one! Channels can be moved after they've been added.
- Select a Category: Choosing a location brings you to a new page with a dropdown menu of available categories. Make a selection and click "Go."
- Select a Channel: From the list that appears at right, select a channel name and click "Add Channel." This will add the channel to your layout in the location you specified and return you to the User Preferences page.
- Finish: Continue your editing session or choose to Return to Current Tab to quit editing. Your changes are automatically saved as you make them.
Moving Channels
To move a channel within a tab, select Change Layout & Skin and choose the tab containing the channel you want to move. Each channel has arrow buttons for left, right, up, and down. Clicking the left or right arrows will move the channel to the bottom of the adjacent left or right column. Clicking the up or down arrows will shift the channel up or down in its current column. Note: Some channels are locked in place on their tabs; arrows will not appear for those channels.
