Moving Around in myDENISON
Viewing the default channels and tabs in myDENISON is fairly simple, because the navigation scheme remains constant.
To understand myDENISON's structure, think of it as a bookbag.
Tabs
If myDENISON is a bookbag, the Tabs are the pockets. Just as a bookbag is divided into pockets that can hold many useful things, myDENISON is divided into tabs that can hold many different channels.
To move from one tab to another, click on the tab that you want to go to. The page will load, and you will see the new tab's channels.
Tabs can also be added or set as default. To find out how, go to the Tabs and Columns section.
Channels
Still thinking of myDENISON as a bookbag: a channel is one of the items that you carry around in your pockets. Channels are windows of information that can contain anything from a single login or list of links to all of the day's events.
Although how you use a channel varies depending on who created the channel and what its purpose is, most channels behave in a standard way.
- Links open a new browser window so that you don't have to leave myDENISON.
- Certain logins, like WebMail, will not require you to re-enter your password. More sensitive information, like information in DU Self Service, will require a PIN.
- Many channels contain information that is updated daily.
- When information in a channel grows or shrinks, the channel grows and shrinks along with it, making enough room to view all the informationor condensing to allow other items to take up the space.
Channels have several buttons for manipulation in their upper right hand corner.
- A dash allows you to minimize the channel to open up more space for other channels. When a channel is minimized, the dash changes to a box that can be clicked to re-open the channel.
- A magnifying glass zooms in on a channel, making it the only channel in your screen. To get back to the tab you came from, click on "Return to current tab" at the upper left on your screen.
- An X allows you to remove a channel from that tab. When you click the X, a confirmation message appears; if you choose OK, the only way to get the channel back is to add that channel again. Some channels do not have an X and cannot be removed.
- A question mark indicates that there is help documentation available for that channel.
