Voice Mail Instructions

Your voice mailbox has been activated and is ready for you to set up with your own greeting and pass code. The following directions will help you accomplish that. If you have any questions or have a problem with the setup procedure, please contact Telephone Services at Ext. 6454 or email telephoneservices@denison.edu.

To Set Your Voice Mail Up For The First Time

  1. Dial 6555 to access the voice mail system. When prompted, enter your "old" pass code (58708) and follow the prompts through the tutorial.
  2. You MUST complete the tutorial for the mailbox to be set up and functional.
  3. Your "old" pass code is 58708. This is a generic pass code used for all new voice mailboxes. Select a new 5-digit pass code that is easy for you to remember. Due to privacy issues, Telephone Services does not maintain a list of personal voice mail pass codes.
  4. Your mailbox number is the same as your extension.
  5. Either a flashing message waiting light or a stuttered dial tone (depending on the type of phone you have) indicates that you have a voice mail message.
  6. To check your voice mail, dial 6555 and follow the voice prompts.

Voice Mail Tips

  • To transfer directly to another mailbox ................... Press flash; dial 6555. When the greeting comes on, press* then the station number and immediately hang up the phone.
  • To check your mailbox from another phone on campus ............ Dial your extension; when your message starts, press * and enter your passcode.
  • To check your mailbox from off campus ........... Dial (740) 587-6555; when prompted, enter your 4-digit extension; when prompted for your passcode, enter * and your 5-digit passcode.
  • When playing a message ............
    • Press * to move backward 5 seconds.
    • Press # to move forward 5 seconds.
    • Press (1) to pause 5 seconds, Press any key to resume.
    • Press (8) to move to the beginning of the next message.
  • To bypass a greeting ........ Press 9, then leave a message.

To make international calls or send faxes:  Dial 3 + 011 + Country Code + City Code + Number.

If you do not have a country code or a city code, go to this user friendly website:

http://www.countrycallingcodes.com.  It asks you simply, "Where are you calling from?" and "Where are you calling to?"  Select from the convenient drop-down menu boxes, click on "Submit" and you will given the appropriate calling information and very clear dialing instructions.  Additionally, it provides the current time in that particular location.
