Davis Summer Work Program
The Davis Program is a work program available to Denison students during the summer. For the 2012 summer, students will be paid $11.50 per hour and are allowed to work up to 40 hours per week for 14 weeks, depending upon available assignments.
Requirements
- Students must be in good academic standing and achieving Satisfactory Academic Progress;
NOTE: If you begin your Davis employment prior to Spring grades being determined, your employment may be terminated if you do not remain in good standing
- Students must complete a Davis Employment Application [pdf] and submit it to the Financial Aid Office in addition to any documentation required by the department. Davis Positions are filled quickly; it is recommended that applications be submitted as soon as possible.
Deductions
Students are taxed on all amounts that they earn on campus during the summer. International students with an F-1 Visa status are exempt from paying FICA Medicare and FICA (Social Security) tax. However, all other students will pay FICA taxes on their Davis earnings. After the applicable taxes are deducted, 50% of the earnings will be paid directly to the student and 50% will be applied towards the student’s bill in the Student Accounts Office. Those who live on campus will be charged a weekly room allowance of $69.00.
Housing
Please pay careful attention to the job descriptions for each of the openings. Housing is a benefit offered by some, but not all, departments. Students who choose to live on campus during the summer will need to sign a housing contract with the Campus and Residential Life Office. The deadline to apply for summer housing is April 15th. In addition, as stated above, students who choose to live on campus will be charged a weekly housing allowance of $69.00.
Jobs Available
Please carefully review the listing of jobs available through the Davis program. Job responsibilities vary by department but some examples include: caring for plants/ landscaping through the Physical Plant and the Bioreserve, moving and setting up equipment for the Summer Conference Services.
Since there are a limited number of Davis positions available, students are also encouraged to complete an application for regular summer employment with the Office of Human Resources, located on the 3rd floor of Doane. Summer employment positions, other than Davis, will be paid $8.30 per hour.
