Disbursement Requirements

The Financial Aid Office administers the eligibility requirements for disbursement of both merit and need based financial aid awards to students' accounts. The Controller's Office administers the process that actually disburses the funds. The following situations can prevent the disbursement of aid to students’ accounts:

+ Incomplete Financial Aid File

Incomplete Financial Aid File

Prospective students who apply for need based aid are awarded estimated financial aid awards. Shortly after May 1st, the Financial Aid Office will send requests for verification documents to all students who enrolled with need based awards. The tentative awards will not be finalized until the requested document has been received and financial aid file has been verified. Prompt response to these requests for information will ensure that the aid will disburse to the fall bills in a timely manner.

Upper class students who file for need based aid may be required to submit verification documents to complete their file before their financial aid packages can be generated.

Upper class students are encouraged to have their files complete by May 1st to ensure that their aid will disburse to their accounts.

+ Incomplete Loan Promissory Note Requirements

Incomplete Loan Promissory Note Requirements

First time Direct Loan borrowers are required to complete a Master Promissory Note and Entrance Loan Counseling before the loan proceeds will disburse to the account. Both of these requirements can be completed online. • Repeat student borrowers will be able to accept their loans using Denison Self Service.

  • Parents borrowing the PLUS Loan for the first time are required to complete a Master Promissory Note. This requirement can be completed on line here.

  • Repeat borrowers of the parent PLUS loan must apply online at www.studentloans.gov.

+ Missing Final High School Transcript

Missing Final High School Transcript

New students are required to provide a final high school transcript or documents confirming graduation from high school before any financial aid can be disbursed.

+ Missing Transcript From an Off Campus Program

Missing Transcript From an Off Campus Program

Students returning to Denison after attending an Off Campus Study Program will not have their financial aid disbursed until Denison's Registrar's Office receives a transcript confirming the credits earned.

+ Outside Scholarships

Outside Scholarships

The Financial Aid Office indicates on the award screen the amount of outside scholarships that are reported by students. These awards do not disburse to the students' accounts. When the checks for these outside awards are received by the Controller's Office, the funds are posted to the accounts.
