To President Knobel from HRAG, thank you for the extra holiday.
OLD BUSINESS:
* Longevity rewards. The suggestion raised last month was more of a question, asking if support staff could receive .25/hr raise for 10 years of service and .25/hr at every 5 years thereafter, or a bonus on the anniversary date of $500. Although the topic has been raised before, the University works very hard to keep support staff rates competitive. The Office of Human Resources does not believe the college is interested in supporting a cash reward program for service at this time.
NEW BUSINESS:
* A new employee worked a casual job and had some concern with the rate of pay reported on her paycheck vs. hours submitted on timesheet. Why the difference? A member stated that it is the responsibility of the employee seeking casual employment to contact the Office of Human Resources Department to discuss the rate of pay before working for another department outside of his/her normal work duties. The hourly rates of pay for casual work will be different and typically not the same as an employees’ regular rate of pay for their primary job.
* Employees have been asked to pick up some additional hours for a co-worker on leave. The request comes during a time where there is a holiday involved. Why would an employee receive holiday pay less than the hours worked? Employees will get paid for working on a holiday plus time and a half pay hours worked. (Example: employee works 12 hours on a holiday; the employee will be paid 8 hours for the holiday because that is the budgeted hours for a day, and 12 hours paid at time and a half.)
* Barbara asked the HRAG what they thought of having a combined recognition banquet of support staff and the general faculty? The consensus of the group was favorable. They felt it would be good overall.
HR Reminders
Barbara reminded the group about the following:
* Web Time Entry. Staff will continue to document their worked hours through web time entry that is accessible through DU Self-Service. Barbara talked briefly on the importance of employees submitting their worked hours on a timely basis, and encouraged those approving them to be mindful of approving student timesheets on time as well.
* Personal Leave/Floating Holiday. Effective January 2008, personal leave will be eliminated and placed with an extra floating holiday. Full-time employees will receive (3) floating holidays per year. The days don’t accrue, so employee would lose them at the end of each year. Part-time employees will receive one floating holiday that will be pro-rated according to the hours they work. For this year (2007) floating holidays must be used by December 28th, and time must be approved by your supervisor before using them.
* Direct Deposit. Effective February 2008, staff will move to electronic direct statements through DU Self-Service (online).
The next HRAG meeting will be January 9, 2008 in Burton Morgan Room 317.
