Emeriti Program

The Emeriti Program was created to respond to changing retirement behavior in the academic community, the rapid aging of the American population, and ever-increasing health care costs. As a collaborative enterprise, Emeriti is able to provide access to retiree group health plans, which offer a way to accumulate funds, as well as flexible disbursement options for retiree medical expenses.

The core design features of the Emeriti Progam's innovative model include:

* A tax-advantaged way to invest and accumulate assets exclusively to meet future retiree medical expenses - the Emeriti Health Accounts - with investment choices and administrative services provided by Fidelity Investments.

* A specially designed health insurance program for retirees and their dependents that compliments Medicare - the Emeriti Health Insurance Plan Options - underwritten by Aetna Life Insurance Company.

Eligibility

All eligible full-time faculty and staff who are at least 21 years of age are eligible to participate in the Emeriti program on a voluntary contribution basis. For eligible full-time faculty and staff hired after June 30, 1993, Denison will, upon reaching age 40, make monthly contributions to a tax-advantaged account.

Full-time eligible faculty and staff hired prior to July 1, 1993 will have access to the Emeriti Health Insurance Options upon retiring from Denison University (but will not receive contributions to the tax-advantaged savings account). Denison will pay a percentage of the health care premium for this group according to the plan in effect at the time of retirement. Please visit the Office of Human Resources for more details.
