New Items

1.Vacation Policy - Jim reported that at the April supervisors' meeting the issue of vacation policy for support staff was discussed.  Currently, support staff can take vacation in as small as 1/2 day increments but no smaller.  It was recommended that we change the policy so that support staff can take vacation in as small as 1 hour increments.  The supervisors' group unanimously supported making this change.  All HRAG representatives all support making this change.  Therefore, we will change the policy effectively immediately.  The least amount of vacation that a support staff employee can take is 1 hour.  Vacation could then be taken in 15 minute increments beyond the one hour.  The vacation policy will be amended as appropriate.

2.HRAG Elections Update - The three openings beginning September 2005 have been filled.  Laurie Mackenzie-Crane was elected to fill the Doane Administrative Support slot, Sheryl Pustay was elected to fill the Academic Support (Library and ComputingCenter) slot, and Christy Trager was elected to fill the Academic Departments and Slayter slot.

3.Parking- A concern was raised by a representative that there are some non-parking spots on the east quad near Crawford where some staff are being allowed to park.  Apparently, this has caused some concern by some staff.  This issue was forwarded to the appropriate supervisory and administrative staff and the practice will be discontinued.

4.Tuition Program at Denison - We discussed briefly the change in the tuition policy at Denison for dependents whereby normal admission criteria has to be met for admission. Some staff inquired whether or not staff hired under the previous guidelines where a provisional admit was allowed could be grandfathered under the previous criteria.  At the time the policy was changed, the 'grandfathered" idea was discussed but it was decided that it would be best to change the policy the same for all faculty and staff.  In light of Admissions' willingness to review dependents' qualifications closely and stretch the criteria as much as they feel they can to ensure a successful experience for dependents, the administration felt that changing the policy for everyone would be the best approach.

5.Smoking Outside Buildings - A concern was brought to the group regarding a staff member smoking just outside a building and the smoke rising up and into other employees' offices.  Human Resources certainly could speak with the person to determine if there is another area to smoke where others would not be impacted.  It turns out that the issue was discussed by the employees in the area and the person smoking and the matter was resolved.

Updates

1.Tuition Elsewhere Benefit - This item will be discussed again at the September meeting. It is still being reviewed.
