New Items

1.Welcome - The group welcomed the new HRAG representatives.  They are: Sally Scheiderer representing academic secretaries and academic support; Ed Best representing building services; and Josh Hoskinson representing security and safety. Their terms run from September 2006 through May 2009.

2. Chair and Co-chair - Lynn McIlyar, co-chair for the current academic year, will automatically become the chair for next academic year.  Laurie Mackenzie-Crane agreed to be co-chair.  She will become chair in September 2007.

3.Sick Pay - A question was asked about the sick pay benefit for support staff. Specifically, it was mentioned that some people believe that because a full-time employee accrues one sick day per month or twelve days per year that these days can be taken without any possible consequences regarding poor absenteeism.  Jim explained that the sick time benefit is a self-insured short-term disability program and is not meant to convey that twelve sick days off per year is necessarily permissible.  The group suggested that a clarification in the next version of the handbook may make sense to clarify the intent.

4. Year End Wrap Up - We briefly discussed the year’s work by HRAG.  While many issues were discussed, clearly the change in the tuition cash assistance program was the highlight.

Updates

1.HRAG Reps - Openings have been filled

2. HR Meetings - The HR communication meetings were conducted as scheduled.  No major issues arose from these meetings.

3.Security Event Rate - The security event rate is being reviewed for a change beginning with the new fiscal year.
