Human Resources
November 2006
HR Advisory Group - Meeting Minutes
Attended: Laurie MacKenzie-Crane, Sheryl Pustay, Belinda
Carr, Linda Payne, Sally Scheiderer, Edwin Best
New Items
1. Employee Discipline Policy
Review (continue) - The group discussed the issue of
combining the employee discipline policy as outlined in the SOS and
Administrative handbooks to be similar. The current employee discipline
process described in the SOS handbook is more extensive with marginal
performance and misconduct. It was recommended that these two areas
collapse to ensure consistency with the Administrative handbook.
Human Resources will be reviewing with HRAG other areas of the
handbooks to discuss in hope to close other inconsistencies.
2. Internal/External Candidates & Internal
Candidate Guaranteed Interview Discussion - Jim Ables
brought to the attention of the group that the current policy will undergo a
review by the Personnel Committee and the Office of Human Resources. He
conveyed to the group that the current policy allows all current employees to
go through an interview process, if they apply, be interviewed regardless of
their qualifications. The group agreed that only qualified applicants
should be interviewed rather than allowing everyone who applies to interview
for the job.
3. 403(b) Retirement Plan
- This is to be discussed in the December meeting.
4.Service Award Banquet 2007 - Barbara informed the
group that the next banquet will be held on January 13, 2007 in Huffman
Hall. Furthermore, the group was informed that the banquet is in the
planning stage at this time, and that they would keep them up to date on the
progress.
5.Security/Physical Plant Representation - Josh
Hoskinson has left
6.Education Benefits for Employee’s (spouse) - A
question was raised about spouse education benefits. The current policy
states that an employee’s spouse and/or domestic partner are eligible after the
employee has completed the 90-day introductory period. If the spouse
and/or domestic partner already have a BA degree, the spouse and/or domestic
partner may take one class per semester, subject to space availability, for
either credit or audit for eight semesters. If the spouse and/or domestic
partner do not have a BA degree, they can apply through admissions and can take
classes to work towards degree. The tuition bill is submitted to HR by
the employee for processing.
