New Items

1.Introduction - Barbara Lay, Associate Director, Human Resources - Jim introduced Barbara Lay, the new Associate Director of Human Resources.  The group welcomed Barbara to Denison.  Someone mentioned a requirement to bring donuts to each meeting.

2.Sick/Disability Leave - A few questions were asked regarding how sick leave and long-term disability leave worked at Denison.  If someone goes off on medical leave, accumulated sick leave is used.  If this is exhausted, an employee can opt to apply for leave donation days.  Additionally, an employee can apply for emergency assistance per the policy in the handbook.  There is a six month waiting period for long-term disability benefits.  A suggestion was made that the six month waiting period be included in the policy handbook.

3.Flu Shots - Human Resources is working with the HealthCenter to try to get flu shots for faculty and staff.  We should know with the first week or two of November if we will be successful.

4. Building Service Representative - A memo is needed to encourage volunteersfor replacement of the HRAG representative opening in the Building Services area.  Human Resources will send a memo regarding this opening.

5.Health Care Renewal - Jim mentioned that Human Resources is working on renewing the health care plans with Cigna for 2007.  While there will be some changes, they don't appear to be significant.  More information will follow.

6.SOS Handbook Changes - HRAG is reviewing suggested policy changes for the SOS policy handbook.  Jim shared with the group a change in the employee discipline policies.  Essentially, when the administrative staff handbook was published last year, a change was made to the employee discipline policies and this change is being suggested for the SOS handbook as well.  The group did not have much time to discuss the change and will continue reviewing this change in November.
