I. Reports on raising expectations

Board members continued a thoughtful discussion about means to raise expectations for uses of information technology in ways that support the institutional mission. We heard the reports from the four groups who were charged with polling their constituencies about means to raise expectations.

II. What's next?

Provost Anderson asked how we could use this information, especially in defining a set of student-centric goals such as keeping students on task, using tools, making it easier to use them. He noted that we have a strong technical infrastructure for all uses of information technology, and that these are strengths for both the academic as well as administrative areas of Denison.

Our reports listed many possible project areas all of which are limited by resources. We decided to form two groups to assess the possibilities. One group, headed by Seth Patton and including Jordan Bennett and Lisbeth Lipari, were charged with listing all the possible projects that could be called "low hanging fruit." These would be projects that were relatively easy to implement based on technical difficulty, cultural challenges, costs and time tables. The other group, headed by David Anderson and including Mary Prophet and Scott Siddall, were asked to develop a statement of vision for a new initiative that might raise expectations for use of information at Denison.
