2013 International Food and Culture Festival
Following the success of last academic year's festival, Denison's Cross-Cultural Community will once again host the second annual International Food and Culture Festival!
All foods are internationally relative and relevant. In the process of learning through food, we may begin to discover how we relate to both the food and the cultures plated before us. A component of the 2012-2013 Food and Culture Colloquium, the second annual International Food and Culture Festival will challenge all diners to quite literally taste and think critically of this year's campus theme of "Creativity & Courage." From Denmark's Rødgrød med Fløde to the Calulu of São Tomé and Príncipe, Korea's Japchae to the Tire d'Érable of Canada, New Zealand's Kerikeri Corn Salad to the Nshima of Zambia, this year's menu will feature at least 25 different countries across six continents, as we further consider authenticity, food fusion and local interpretations of global cuisine.
This event will be held in Curtis Dining Hall from 5:00-7:00pm on Sunday, February 24. In addition, themed verbal and non-verbal “dialogue” tables will be designated in the Curtis Veggie Room. Menu items typically found in Curtis (e.g., pizza, pasta and hamburgers) will NOT be available in Curtis. Huffman Dining Hall will serve non-IFCF food on the 24th. Come join us in this opportunity to try something new and learn about other cultures through the foods we’ll be offering. Check out the Facebook event!
Please note: Students must swipe into the dining hall; students not on an unlimited meal plan may double-swipe students not on a meal plan. For all others, Flex Dollars, Denison Dollars and Cash will be other accepted forms of payment. Cost for the meal is $6.20 per person not on a meal plan. The 2013 IFCF is open to both Denisonians and the general public.
The International Food and Culture Festival is sponsored by the Office of Multi-Cultural Student Affairs, the Cross-Cultural Community, International Student Services, Denison Dining Services, Sodexo and Spectrum Series '12-'13: Creativity & Courage.
Visit the Facebook event page. Below, check out country facts via the CIA World Factbook and photos (read: variations) of this year's menu.
