Social Action
A good education broadens your perspectives both in and out of the classroom. Throughout the year, we offer numerous lectures and concerts that introduce our community to new art forms, cultures and ways of life. Our convocations and special events attract big names in multi-cultural communities, and extensive extracurricular programming offers all students the chance to express themselves, explore their roots or expand their horizons.
A Sampling of Campus Events:
- Black History Month Celebration including historical re-enactments, Heritage Movie Series, and special guest speakers
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Learning
- Chinese New Year Celebration
- Semana Latina: a week celebrating Hispanic Culture
- Cultural Day: a student celeration with dress, exhibits, music and food
- Cultural Fashion Show
- Performing Cultural Arts Night
- Diwali Festival of Lights
- Eid-ul-Fitr, Muslim Feast Celebration Signifying the Conclusion of Ramadan
- Gospel Choir Concerts
- International Festival with martial arts, poetry reading, Jewish Fellowship, Italian folklore
- Commemorative Rally for the Million Man/Woman Marches
- Convocations treat the Denison community to lectures and performances from internationally known guest, including Spike Lee, Nikki Giovanni, Maya Angelou, Edward Albee, Jocelyn Elders, Yo-Yo Ma, and Bobby McFerrin.
