Michele Myers Internship in the Fine Arts (2008)

Denison University offers the Michele Myers Internship to outstanding students of the Fine Arts.  This fellowship carries a stipend of $3100 to defray living expenses for ten weeks in the summer. It is named in honor of Denison’s previous  president, Michele Myers, who requested this be designed to support one or two students per year in an internship of his/her choice within the Fine Arts.  Students should have a minimum 3.0 GPA to apply.

To qualify, an applicant must:

  • be a declared major in one (or more) of the Fine Arts departments: Art, Cinema, Dance, Music, or Theatre; OR
  • be a declared individually designed major (IDM) that incorporates a minimum of two arts departments;
  • maintain a minimum overall GPA of 3.0;
  • be recommended by one of the Fine Arts departments based on artistic merit, grade point average, and leadership qualities.

Step One

Applicants must submit the following electronically by Monday, March 17, 2008, 4:30 pm.

1.    A letter of application that includes:

        a.    a description of the internship you wish to pursue;

        b.    information about any contact you have made with this organization to see if an internship is possible (note: at this time you do not need to have the internship arranged);

        c.    an explanation of how this internship would fit into your overall educational program, short-and-long term intellectual/artistic/career goals, and how you would benefit from it.

2.    A current resumé

3.    An unofficial transcript (student must go to the Registrar's office and request an unofficial transcript in person; the Registrar's office will give the student the unofficial transcript which should be scanned and attached to this application)

4.    A short letter of endorsement from your sponsoring faculty member/department chair

The applicant must check (on the Application Form that follows) the department of choice for receipt of this application. These materials should be submitted electronically according to the instructions on the Application Form. 

Step Two

The Fine Arts Departments will review applications and select the Michele Myers Interns. Decisions will be announced and students notified by April 30, 2008.
