Big Red Football Assists Local Building Project

Denison’s varsity football players and coaches recently teamed up with the Granville Studio of Visual Arts (GSVA) to help construct a digital media lab for students of all ages on the grounds of Bryn Du Mansion in Granville.

On Sunday, September 13, over the course of four hours, some 90 players took up hammers and saws to install drywall, flooring and shelving on the second floor of GSVA’s facility at the mansion. Contractors and coaches directed the team while members of the community provided relief in the form of drinks and sandwiches.

The football team became involved through Mike Barnum, a senior defensive lineman who interned at GSVA over the summer.  Barnum presented the service opportunity to his teammates and coaching staff, and the Big Red squad showed up at Bryn Du less than 24 hours after their game against Wabash College.

Established in 2008, GSVA is a grassroots, community-based nonprofit organization that teaches creative thinking through art. The Granville group offers innovative school and after-school programs that prepare students of all ages for success.
