Denison University’s Third TUTTI! New Music Festival
For three days in late March, Denison University’s third TUTTI! New Music Festival provided the entire community with an unparalleled opportunity to experience contemporary music firsthand. The festival traveled through an assortment of musical styles with pieces by 30 composers and a number of visiting musicians from around the globe. The festival, which featured workshops and performances in a number of campus venues, was sponsored by the Denison Department of Music with support from the Vail Series.
In addition to attending performances and rehearsals, Denison students had one-on-one sessions with visiting musicians and featured composer Derek Bermel, giving them a unique glimpse into the world of new music. The week opened with a performance by ensemble group Brave New Works, continued with performances by Denison students and faculty and concluded with a Vail Series performance by the Brooklyn Rider Quartet.
The two videos below offer a sampling of festival’s musical offerings, along with reflections of Denison students and faculty, as well as guest artists and composers.
