Denison University's Theatre II Presents 'The Gift of the Magi'

Posted: December 11, 2002

Denison University Theatre II will present "The Gift of the Magi" at 8 p.m. this Friday and Saturday (Dec. 13 and 14) in Burke Hall Theatre.

Adapted by Anne Coulter Martens, this play is based on O. Henry's touching and beautiful story of a young couple unable to afford presents for each other on their first Christmas together. Each sacrifices a treasure to provide a gift for the other; but, in so doing, they work at almost tragically funny cross-purposes. This is a play about young love and the value of giving. Indeed, the Magi were Wise Men and their gifts were wise gifts, however foolish in the eyes of the practical.

Directed by Tiana Gabriel, the play features Danielle Lebens and James Ramsey as the newlyweds. Other cast members are Lindsay Webb, Lauren Williams, Rachel Solomon, Caitlin McCown, and Michael P. Goldsberry. On the staff are: Ashleigh Diver, stage manager; Jessica Pitcairn, scenic designer; Alex Green, lighting designer; and Dianna Craig, costume designer.

The play is free to Denison students and Denison Theatre season subscribers and $3 for general admission. There will be open seating, but tickets may be reserved by calling (740) 587-6527.
