Denison to Honor Seven Alumni With Citations at Reunion Weekend

Seven distinguished Denison University alumni who serve as prominent leaders in the arts, astrophysics, civic action, pediatric medical research and community service, will be honored in Swasey Chapel on Friday (June 3) for their contributions to their professions, their communities and their alma mater. This is the 56th year in which Alumni Citations have been conferred by Denison. The first ceremony was in 1949.

The ceremony will take place amid Reunion Weekend festivities on campus June 2 to June 5. The 11 classes holding regular reunions are: 1980 for a 25th reunion; 1974, 1975, and 1976 for a triple class 30th reunion; 1965 for its 40th; 1955 for its 50th; and 1930, 1935, 1940, 1945 and 1950 for 55th through 75th Diamond Years Reunions. All alumni are welcome to attend the weekend's festivities.

Each of the seven Alumni Citation recipients will receive the highest award bestowed by Denison's Society of the Alumni "in recognition of outstanding achievements and services that reflect honor upon the University," according to Alumni Director Sandy Peeler Ellinger '65.

Close to a thousand visitors are expected to participate in this year's Alumni Reunion Weekend, which kicked off with an "Early Arrivers' Reception" on Thursday on the Campus Common. A golf outing, stargazing, bicentennial exhibits in the library and a walking tour of historicand class dinners precede the traditional Friday evening "Parade of the Classes" led by emeriti faculty members enroute to the 8 p.m. Reunion Convocation in Swasey Chapel. During those ceremonies, Denison President Dale T. Knobel and President of the Society of the Alumni Kim Cromwell '81 will award the Alumni Citations and announce reunion class gifts.

Other Reunion Weekend activities include Alumni College classes, tours, class photo sessions, the "Big Red Buzzard" 5K Fun Run/Walk, a squash round robin and a "No-Parent Zone" for the children of returning alumni.
