Denison Honors Nine Alumni with Citations at Reunion Weekend

Nine distinguished Denison University alumni, including one from central Ohio, who serve as prominent leaders in medicine, architecture, meteorology, community service and television, will be honored in Swasey Chapel on Friday (June 4) for their contributions to their professions, their communities and their alma mater. This is the 55th year in which Alumni Citations have been conferred by Denison. The first ceremony was in 1949.
The ceremony will take place amid Reunion Weekend festivities on campus June 3 to June 6. The 14 classes holding regular reunions are: 1990, 1989 and 1988 (a triple class 15th reunion); 1979 for its 25th ; 1970, 1969 and 1968 (a triple class 35th reunion); 1964 for its 40th; 1954 for its 50th; 1949, 1944, 1939, 1934 and 1929 for 55th through 75th anniversaries. All alumni are welcome to attend the weekend's festivities.
Each of the nine Alumni Citation recipients will receive the highest award bestowed by Denison's Society of the Alumni "in recognition of outstanding achievements and services that reflect honor upon the University," according to Alumni Director Sandy Peeler Ellinger '65.

Close to a thousand visitors are expected to participate in this year's Alumni Reunion Weekend, which kicks off with an "Early Arrivers' Dinner" on Thursday in Huffman Dining Hall. Early arriving alumni may also participate in the "ghost-guided" tours of the Old Colony Burying Ground on Thursday evening. A golf outing, a tour of the Doane Library archives and special collections, a walking tour ofvan tours of campus and class dinners precede the traditional Friday evening "Parade of the Classes" led by emeriti faculty members en route to the 8 p.m. Reunion Convocation in Swasey Chapel. During those ceremonies, Denison President Dale T. Knobel and President of the Society of the Alumni Bradley Turner will award the Alumni Citations and announce reunion class gifts.
Other Reunion Weekend activities include Alumni College classes, tours, class photo sessions, the "Big Red Buzzard" 5K Fun Run/Walk, a squash round robin and "Camp Denison" for the children of returning alumni.
