Denison's Swasey Observatory
GRANVILLE - The Denison University Observatory will be open, weather permitting, for community members to view the April skies from 8 to 10 p.m. on Thursday (April 26). Of particular interest this month will be the planet Jupiter, and the Orion Nebula and the Beehive Cluster star formations. On hand to help interpret the sky views will be Denison astronomy students. This event is free and open to the public.
Denison's Swasey Observatory opened in 1910. If skies are clear, visitors will use the Warner & Swasey 9" refracting telescope in the observatory?s dome and an 8" telescope set up at ground level.
This will be the final open house at the observatory this semester. Director of the Observatory Lauren Jones plans to resume open houses at the observatory, as well as star shows in the Olin Science Hall Planetarium, in the fall.
