Date of Event: October 9, 2009

Posted: September 28, 2009

After a two-year hiatus, the Studio Art Program at Denison University is happy to welcome back a treasured tradition, the Art Marathon. The local community is encouraged to come and make non-stop art for 12 hours in the new facilities at the Bryant Arts Center (210 West College Street) from 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, through 5 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10.

A featured event of the Art Marathon is the Denison Art Collective's Bowl-a-thon, which will take place in the ceramic studio where people may create bowls that will be glazed by students.  On November 19, the bowls will be filled with soup and sold to benefit the New Beginnings Domestic Violence Shelter and the Licking County Salvation Army's meal programs. The Bowl-a-thon is co-sponsored by the Denison Museum, the Studio Art Program, the Annual Campus Theme Fund, the Soup Loft and Whatever Works Art Space.

The Art Marathon also will feature sculpture, painting, photography and printmaking studios also will be open so that people can experience making art in many forms.

The Art Marathon is sponsored by the Department of Art and the DU Art Collective.

Those who participate for at least six hours of the 12-hour marathon, or in the Bowl-a-thon, will be rewarded with a souvenir T-shirt. The event is free; snacks and refreshments will be supplied. For more information, contact 740-587-6596 or visit www.denison.edu.
