Date of Event: October 14, 2005
Posted: October 10, 2005
The Denison University art department will enter new creative territory when it hosts the first 24-hour art marathon, "Up All Night," which will take place from 7 p.m. Friday (Oct. 14) to 7 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 15) in Cleveland Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
Students, faculty, staff, and members of the community are encouraged to stop by or join in the event at any point in time and watch art students and faculty in the midst of creating work for a 24-hour period. Visiting Assistant Professor of Art Ryan Roth, also the event supervisor, said that the purpose of the art marathon is "to check your endurance, to examine your work at four o'clock in the morning and see how that differs from your self-critique at four o'clock in the afternoon." Music and food for the late night hours will keep the artists and visitors awake and on their feet. Coffee and donuts will supply the sugar highs during the daylight hours.
"It is also an opportunity for students to see faculty working on a piece and observe their thinking process," Roth said.
