Artist’s talk by Vail Visiting Artist Dona Nelson

GRANVILLE, Ohio— An artist’s talk by Dona Nelson will take place at 7 p.m., on Thursday, Oct. 4, in the Knapp Performance Lab (300 Ridge Road). Nelson’s canvases are included in the public collections of the Weatherspoon Museum of Fine Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim Museum, the M.I.T. Collection, Cambridge, Massachusetts, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art in Philadelphia, among others. The talk is free and open to the public. Nelson is a professor of painting and drawing at Tyler School of Art, at Temple University, where she has taught since 1991. Her paintings have been featured in ten solo gallery exhibitions in New York City and numerous group exhibitions in New York City and nationally. Nelson moved to New York City in 1967 to participate in the Whitney Independent Study Program. She received her B.F.A. from Ohio State University in 1968.
 
Nelson was awarded a 2011 Foundation for Contemporary Art Individual Grant. She also was the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1994 and a grant from the Tesuque Foundation in 2000, as well as other grants and awards. Nelson was appointed visiting professor in painting/printmaking at Yale in 2011. Over the years Nelson’s work has received extensive critical support including numerous reviews in the New York Times, Art in America, The New Yorker, The Village Voice and Artforum.
