GRANVILLE, Ohio— Michael Stickrod, artist and visiting professor at Denison University, will present an artist talk with a viewing of his work at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29, in the Cinema Building (201 North Mulberry Street). The artist talk is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Dyan Couden at 740-587-6595 or visit www.denison.edu.

Stickrod’s videos are constructions of personal family documentations that range from reel-to-reel audio recordings of his mother’s memories, to scans of her paintings, to video that Stickrod shot observing his parents’ daily lives. The portraits of his father and mother become abstract statements on life lived in the day-to-day. Jarrett Gregory of the New Museum in New York writes, “The films capture a Depression-era sensibility and are reminiscent of works by American playwrights Eugene O’Neill and Arthur Miller.”
