Author Reza Aslan Lectures on Future of Islam

The Denison Lilly Lecture Series presents the author of a critically praised book, "No god but God: The Origin, Evolution and Future of Islam." Reza Aslan will discuss the fastest growing and second largest religion today, Islam. His lecture, "The Future Of Islam: Toward The Islamic Reformation," is set for 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday (Nov. 15) in Slayter Auditorium and is free and open to the public. There will be a book signing during a reception immediately following the lecture and his book will be available to purchase.
Aslan, who fled Iran at age seven with family amidst the chaos of a revolution, is a scholar of Islam and the Middle East, a media consultant on issues of religion and politics, and a author.
Aslan earned degrees from Santa Clara University, Harvard University, and University of California, Santa Barbara, as well as a master in fine arts degree in fiction from the Iowa Writer's Workshop. In 1998 he was elected president of Harvard's chapter of the World Conference on Religion and Peace, a United Nations organization committed to the cause of global understanding.
Until recently, Aslan served on the faculty of the University of Iowa and he was a Truman Capote Fellow in fiction at the Iowa Writer's Workshop. He has written for the Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, Boston Globe, the Washington Post, and The Nation and has appeared on Meet The Press, Hardball, The Daily Show, and Nightline.
