Ingeborg Bachmann was an Austrian poet, dramatist and novelist, as well as a leading voice in post-war German literature. The Department of Modern Languages at Denison University will present an internationally sponsored exhibition on Bachmann from March 22 through April 8, in the Mulberry House (202 North Mulberry Street). The exhibition is free and open to the public with hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Members of the public who are not affiliated with Denison may arrange a viewing of the self-guided exhibition by contacting Gabriele Dillmann, associate professor of modern languages, at 740-587-6226 or dillmann@denison.edu.
The interdisciplinary, multi-medial, bilingual traveling exhibit “Ingeborg Bachmann: Writing against War” was created by well-known Bachmann scholar Hans Hoeller. The exhibition has been successfully shown across Europe and the United States.
A related symposium will take place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7, at the Mulberry House. Research essays on Bachmann will be presented by six students from Dillmann’s German seminar “Writing against War.” The papers will be presented in English. The symposium is free and open to the public.
The exhibition is sponsored by the Modern Languages Department and funded by the Patty Foresman Fund made available by the generous contribution of the John B. Hutchins family.
