Poet Kazim Ali Visits Denison

Poet Kazim Ali will read from his work at Denison University at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18, in the Barney-Davis Board Room (200 West Loop). This event is sponsored by the Beck Lecture Series and is free and open to the public.

Ali teaches creative writing and literature at Oberlin College and in the Stonecoast Masters of Fine Arts program of the University of Southern Maine. He is the author of two books of poems, “The Far Mosque,” winner of Alice James Books’ New England/New York Award; and “The Fortieth Day.” He also has published three novels, including “Quinn’s Passage,” named one of The Best Books of 2005 by Chronogram magazine, and “The Disappearance of Seth.” His work has been featured in national journals such as Best American Poetry 2007, American Poetry Review, Boston Review, and jubilat. Ali is a founding editor of Nightboat Books.

Denison’s Beck Lecture Series was created by Gordon C. Beck in memory of his wife, Harriet Ewens Beck, member of Denison class of 1910. The series brings established writers to the Denison campus.
