Prize-winning author to read from work

GRANVILLE, Ohio—The Denison University Beck Lecture Series presents author Alan Heathcock, a Great Lakes Colleges Association (GLCA) Fiction Prize Winner, at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26, in the Board Room of Denison University’s Barney-Davis Hall (200 West Loop). The winner of the 2012 GLCA News Writers Award in fiction, Heathcock also has received a Whiting Award, a National Magazine Award, and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Sewanee Writers’ Conference and the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference. He is currently a literature fellow for the state of Idaho. A native of Chicago, he teaches fiction writing at Boise State University.
 
Heathcock’s fiction has been published in many of America’s top magazines and journals. “Volt,” a collection of stories, was a Best Book 2011 selection from numerous newspapers and magazines, including GQ, Publisher’s Weekly and Salon magazines, and Chicago Tribune and Cleveland Plain Dealer newspapers. The book was named as New York Times Editor’s Choice, selected as a Barnes and Noble Best Book of the Month, as well as a finalist for the Barnes and Noble Discover Prize.
