Music Department Hosts 6th Annual Bluegrass Festival

The sixth annual Denison Bluegrass Festival kicks off with special guest Infamous Stringdusters at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 5, in Swasey Chapel (200 Chapel Drive). The festival weekend is directed by Denison Music Department faculty Andy Carlson and Casey Cook, and is free and open to the public.
The festival continues on Saturday, Feb. 6, in the rehearsal room of Burke Hall of Music and Art (240 West Broadway) with several workshops, including a banjo session at 9:30 a.m., mandolin session at 10:15 a.m., fiddle session at 11 a.m., and a contest guitar session at noon led by Allen Shadd.
The final event of the festival, is a CD release party which has been moved to 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 6, in Burke Recital Hall (240 West Broadway), for the Andy Carlson Band’s latest recording, “Fiddlehead,” which is a collection of nine original instrumental compositions and/or arrangements and three tracks featuring Michael Smith, Casey Cook and Keith Morris on lead vocals. “Fiddlehead” was recorded and mixed by John Keane in Athens, Ga., and mastered by Randy LeRoy in Nashville, Tenn. Copies are available for purchase online at breakingband.com. The sixth annual Denison Bluegrass Festival is sponsored by the college’s Department of Music and is free and open to the public.
