The Denison University Department of Music will present the fifth annual Denison Bluegrass Festival, featuring special guests the Lonesome River Band at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, in Swasey Chapel (200 Chapel Drive). In addition to the concert, the Lonesome River Band will conduct a bluegrass workshop at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, in the Burke Hall rehearsal room (240 West Broadway). The festival and workshop are free and open to the public.

The Lonesome River Band’s latest album, “No Turning Back,” was released in the fall of 2008 and reached as high as No. 11 on the Bluegrass Chart in Billboard Magazine. It is currently listed No. 1 on the Top 10 Bluegrass CD chart in Bluegrass Music Profiles. According to Billboard, the group “has withstood numerous personnel changes to merge as one of the best respected bands in bluegrass. Although rooted in the traditional sounds of Flatt & Scruggs and Bill Monroe, the Lonesome River Band continues to set standards of their own … [and] to fuse ultra-tight vocal harmonies with virtuosic musicianship and well-conceived arrangements.”

A perennial fan favorite, this year the festival’s feature concert has been moved from Burke Recital Hall to Swasey Chapel to accommodate a larger audience.
