Three nights of Bluegrass at Denison Festival

GRANVILLE, Ohio—This year’s Denison Bluegrass Festival will feature three rip-roaring concerts and six workshops for bluegrass enthusiasts from Friday, Feb. 8, through Sunday, Feb. 10. The workshops and concerts are free and open to the public at Denison University, with the exception of the Sunday evening concert, which is a ticketed event at the Midland Theater. The first concert also serves as a CD release for “Grass Roots” by Mark Wade, assistant professor of music, at 7 p.m. in Burke Recital Hall (240 West Broadway). Saturday evening, Tim O’Brien, Bryan Sutton and solo guitarist David Grier will perform at 7 p.m. in Swasey Chapel (200 Chapel Drive). The final concert, a ticketed event featuring the DePue Brothers Band and Della Mae, takes place at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 10, at Newark’s Midland Theater (36 North Park Place).
 
Several workshops will take place over the weekend in Burke Hall (240 West Broadway).

·      Saturday, Feb. 9, at 2:30 p.m. “Bluegrass Bass with Mark Schatz” Burke Rehearsal Room
·      Saturday, Feb. 9, at 2:30 p.m. Master class with Tim O’Brien, Bryan Sutton and Denison Bluegrass Ensemble students in Burke Recital Hall
·      Sunday, Feb. 10, at 1 p.m. Workshop with the DePue Brothers the Burke Recital Hall.
 
“Grass Roots” features Mark Wade on hammer and dulcime; associate professor of music Andy Carlson on fiddle and mandolin; Mark Schatz on bass and feet; and the music department’s bluegrass instructor Casey Cook on guitar.
