Posted: March 23, 2012

GRANVILLE, Ohio—The International Edible Book Festival, an annual literary feast, will take place this year at Denison University from 2 to 4 p.m. on Monday, April 2, in the William Howard Doane Library (400 West Loop). Judging of entries will take place at 3 p.m. followed by consumption of the entries. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Moriana Garcia at 740-587-5714 or visit www.denison.edu.

The Books2Eat event unites bibliophiles, book artists and food lovers in celebration of the ingestion of culture and its fulfilling nourishment. The Denison library will celebrate its 12th annual event this year. Participants create edible books that are exhibited, documented and, finally, eaten.

Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: “most creative,” this award goes to the piece with the best artistic endeavor (originality of thought); “best presentation,” surpasses all others in style and appearance; “most bookish,” best interpretation of a book title or best use of text or looks most like a book; “best of show,” the overall favorite which may encompass two or more of the other categories; and “best use of campus-wide theme, ‘Migrations.’ ”

The rules are simple: the entry must be completely edible and have something to do with books in shape or content. If serving pieces are required, please be sure they are disposable or can be taken when the entrant leaves. The library staff cannot be responsible for containers, etc. Anything left behind by a book artist will be eaten, recycled or discarded.
