Denison University's chapter of Alpha Epsilon Delta, a pre-health career honorary, is coordinating a competition that tests high school students' knowledge of neuroscience. The Southern Ohio Brain Bee Competition will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday (Feb. 4) in the Welsh Hills Room (Rm. 327) of the Burton D. Morgan Center. Following the competition, lunch will be provided. There is no charge to participate.
Local high school students who register to compete will be quizzed about the brain and how it relates to intelligence, memory, emotions, sensations, movement, stress, aging, sleep and brain disorders. The questions will come from a book published by the Society for Neuroscience, "Brain Facts," which can be downloaded from the Society's web site: http://apu.sfn.org/content/Publications/BrainFacts/indes.html
Event Coordinator Julianne McCall announced that the first place winner of the competition will be awarded a $50 gift certificate to the Denison Bookstore, a package of gift certificates to other businesses, and a voucher for financial assistance to help cover the airfare to the national competition. The National Brain Bee will take place March 13- 19 and the winner of the Denison competition would represent Ohio. The top three finalists will receive an award trophy and t-shirts.
