Denison Republicans to Host CNN Political Analyst, Bay Buchanan
Posted: October 5, 2004
The Denison University College Republicans Club is hosting Angela "Bay" Buchanan, analyst on CNN's "Inside Politics," at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday (October 14) in Slayter Auditorium. Buchanan also is the president of The American Cause, which is an educational foundation dedicated to advancing traditional conservative issues. In the summer of 1996, George magazine recognized her as one of the top 20 political women in the nation. She has served as the campaign chairman for all three presidential campaigns of her brother, Pat Buchanan.
Buchanan began in politics serving as the national treasurer of Ronald Reagan's presidential campaigns in 1980 and 1984. This position helped catapult her into a distinguished career beginning in 1981 when President Reagan appointed her to be Treasurer of the United States. She was the youngest person to ever hold that position since it was established in 1775. She was the chair of President Reagan's commission on women business owners. In 1988 she served as co-chair of the California delegation to the Republican National Convention and served as co-chair of the defense subcommittee of the Platform Committee. In 1990, Buchanan ran for treasurer of the state of California.
Currently, Buchanan is a regular political analyst for "Inside Politics" on CNN, where she debates Donna Brazile. From September of 1996 through August of 1999, she anchored "Equal Time," a political talk show initially on CNBC, and then MSNBC. Buchanan also worked as a political analyst for "Good Morning America" during the general election in 1992 and, from 1996 to 1997, she hosted a two-hour radio talk show program covering current events.
Buchanan is a native of Washington, D.C. She has a master's degree in mathematics from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. In 1981 she received an honorary doctor of law degree from Samford University in Birmingham, Ala.
