Linda Krumholz

Linda Krumholz, associate professor of English and member of the Denison faculty since 1992, was honored at today’s Academic Awards Convocation as the holder of the Lorena Woodrow Burke Chair.

Denison University President Dale Knobel said of Krumholz, “The new recipient of this chair has served the English Department with passion and devotion for the last eighteen years. She is an outstanding teacher, scholar, and leader who fully exemplifies the qualities named in the Burke bequest. She has created innovative learning experiences for her students and engaged them intensely in issues of diversity and identity. She is known for her mentoring of other teachers at Denison. She has contributed regularly to the Black Studies and Women’s Studies curricula over the years, while advising student groups such as the Homesteaders. She has steadily contributed to the scholarly literature in her discipline, and she has been a leader in, and chair, of the department.”

The Lorena Woodrow Burke Chair was established by Charles F. Burke (class of 1904) to honor the memory of his wife, who was a member of the Denison class of 1906. First awarded in 1937, the chair’s most recent holder was the late Desmond Hamlet. The chair is awarded for a period of five years to a tenured faculty member in the English Department whose career has exemplified excellence in teaching, scholarship and service.
