Denison will present lecture on sport as rhetoric

The Denison University Department of Communication will sponsor a lecture by Michael Butterworth, assistant professor at Bowling Green State University’s School of Communication Studies, at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6, in the Higley Hall Auditorium (100 Ridge Road). Butterworth’s discussion of “Militarism and Memorializing at the Pro Football Hall of Fame” is free and open to the public.
Butterworth has promoted the importance of the rhetorical study of sport in communication scholarship. His teaching and research focuses on rhetoric, democracy, and sport, examining rhetorical production of sport as a democratic institution. Butterworth’s work has appeared in journals such as “Communication and Critical/Cultural Studies,” “Critical Studies in Media Communication” and “The Journal of Sport and Social Issues.”
