Denison Senior Presents ‘Let It Within’ Dance Performance

Date of Event: December 13, 2008

Posted: December 2, 2008 / Last Updated: December 11, 2008

Denison dance department major and fellow Megan Castranio will present her senior research performance titled “Let It Within” at 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13, in Doane Dance (231 West College Street). The performance is a journey through ballet and contemporary dance and the experimentation of dancing wearing one pointe shoe. The performance is free and open to the public.

“Let It Within” is Castranio’s second choreographed work at Denison. It continues her investigation of a personal dance repertoire consisting of strict ballet training and contemporary dance training. The movements are created through experimentation with one pointe shoe and one bare foot. Many dancers are trained more dominantly in one of these dance vocabularies. It becomes a personal experience for the individual dancer to remove a part of their comfortable repertoire by adding or removing a single pointe shoe. The combination of ballet and contemporary technique creates an entirely new style of dance and way of moving; it becomes another technical experience and vocabulary for both the dancers and the audience. The dancers are Abby Browarsky ’11, Kelsy Espy ’11, Megan Castranio ’09, Brittany Jackson ’09, Jenna Kelly ’10, Elyse Schultz ’09 and Kate Terlecky ’09.
