GRANVILLE, Ohio— Artist and filmmaker Bruce McClure will present two events at Denison, both in Knapp Hall’s Performance Space (300 Ridge Road) and sponsored by the Department of Cinema. The first, “Film Projection Performance,” provides a look into an evening of live cinema and takes place at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29. The second, an illustrated lecture by McClure, will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30. The performance and lecture are free and open to the public. For more information, contact Assistant Professor of Cinema Jonathan Walley at walleyj@denison.edu.

An internationally renowned artist who was featured in two consecutive Whitney Museum of American Art Biennial surveys, McClure uses 16mm film projectors, film loops, guitar effects pedals and sound synthesizers to create a spectacle of light and sounds. McClure’s approach to his live film performances overloads the senses and redefines cinema. His lecture demonstrates how this system works and discusses his conception of cinema as a live performance art form.
