The 2005 numbers are in, and Denison University's Office of Admissions is reporting another highly successful year. Building on the momentum and strength of several recent entering classes, the Class of 2009 is "a terrifically talented and diverse group of young men and women," according to Vice President and Director of Admissions Perry Robinson. "In many respects, the Class of 2009 appears to have the potential to be one of Denison's best," Robinson stated.

The academic quality and demonstrated success of Denison's current students have been cited as key factors in attracting such a strong group of incoming students, Robinson notes, while reinforcing the University's reputation as one of the nation's leading colleges of the liberal arts and sciences.

"It is clear that we are the first-choice college for a growing number of outstanding students from around the country and overseas," Robinson explained. "The addition of the Class of 2009 to our student body will further enhance the extraordinary educational experiences offered to all Denison students."

In 2004-05, Denison's Office of Admissions received more than 5,100 applications (5,137), its largest applicant pool ever. Subsequently, only 39 percent of Denison's applicants were admitted this year, which represents a record low.

Highlights of this impressive class include:

Denison's Class of 2009 is as accomplished outside the classroom as it is academically. This incoming group includes some 20 class presidents, 20 school newspaper editors, more than 300 participants in the fine or performing arts, 438 who hold full- or part-time jobs through the school year, and literally hundreds who were leaders in community service. Nearly 500 of these students were involved in athletics, and 173 led their peers as team captains. Many of these student-athletes will play an immediate role in Denison's quest to retain the North Coast Athletic Conference's coveted All-Sports Trophy, an honor DU has claimed for an unprecedented eight consecutive years.

The University's Office of Admissions expressed thanks to all of the Denison students, faculty and staff who joined forces to make this admissions year such a resounding success. In addition, special recognition was accorded to Denison's "DARTers" (members of the Denison Alumni Recruiting Team), led by Senior Associate Director of Admissions Mike Hills, as well as other alumni, parents of current Denison students, and friends of the University who played a pivotal role in recruiting these exceptional students for Denison.
